Suzanne Peter Douvry

It is hard to even know where to begin with SPD as we sometimes called her.  Suzanne was remarkable in many many ways,  I loved her, she loved me, we both loved the Gulf.  As a photographer, I found her to be one of the most compelling subjects I was ever fortunate enough to be able to record over a period of about six years.  She was an very interesting blend, clearly at a midpoint on the gender spectrum.  She told me endless stories of her life on Galveston Island, her immigrant father Peter, her Sicilian mother Lucille, and her long time companion Doris.  One day, our friendship of 35 years will result in a larger photo/essay project.
