God of Abraham

Having grown up Southern Baptist, you could say I was raised with a powerful respect for the big guy.  And yet, something just never sat right with me.  It's called Cognitive Dissonance, which is perhaps one of the strongest signs of a healthy personality.  Really, just take a look at some of the stories:  God sends Abram on a journey into the wilderness and then sends an angel to kill him the first night.  He tortures Job on essentially a bet.  He demands a father who waited forever for his child to kill the same, just to prove the father loves the big guy the most.  He turns people into pillars of salt.  He tells his faithful followers to kill every living breathing thing above the age of seven in Jericho.  He drowns the entire living population of earth except for Noah.  And lest we forget, there's that whole business with his own son.  If this doesn't give you a roaring case of cognitive dissonance, you might want to ask why.
